Drive Image
A Drive Image is a file containing a
complete digital copy of all of the
information on a server or PC disk drive. A
drive image creates a digital file, a
snapshot of a moment in time, containing all
of the information contained on the original
drive at the point in which you created the
image. This image is used as a backup
in the event of a disaster. A drive image
may include data files and folders or it may
include system information, applications and
settings in addition to data files.
A drive image should be stored in a safe
place. If some sort of catastrophic failure
occurs, such as corruption of the original
disk or a natural disaster, the copy can be
used to access the information which is no
longer available on the original.
In order to perform a complete drive image,
you should use software designed to
duplicate all of the information on your
server or PC drive. Simply copying and
pasting the information to a new location
will not save your system information,
applications and settings, which you will
need to access the data files in the event
of a disaster.
