Disk Image
A Disk Image is a file containing a complete
digital copy of a all of the information on
a server or PC disk. A disk image creates a
digital file, a snapshot of a moment in
time, containing all of the information
contained on the original disk at the point
in which you created the disk image. This
image is used as a backup in the
event of a disaster. A disk image may
include data files and folders or it may
include system information, applications and
settings in addition to data files.
A disk image should be stored in a safe
place. If some sort of catastrophic failure
occurs, such as corruption of the original
disk or a natural disaster, the copy can be
used to access the information which is no
longer available on the original.
In order to perform a complete disk image,
you should use software designed to image
all of the information on your server or PC
disk. Simply copying and pasting the
information to a new location will not save
your system information, applications and
settings, which you will need to access the
data files in the event of a disaster.
