Backup Software

Backup Software is a computer program used to perform a complete backup of a file, data, database, system or server. The backup software enables you to make an exact duplicate of everything contained on the original source. This software must also be used to perform a recovery of the data or system in the event of a disaster.

Choosing the right backup software is very important. Different software uses different methods to backup data. For example, some software will backup only to tape, while others will backup to disk. Some software uses a file-by-file method to backup.  Other software, such as StorageCraft ShadowProtect, backup an entire volume or drive using drive image technology.

Some things to consider when choosing backup software are the length of time it will take to backup your systems and data, the reliability of the hardware on which your backup will be stored and the experience of the developers of the software.
